Frederic Simpson Coburn (Canadian 1871-1960)

Coburn is best known for his canvases of horse drawn sleighs in wooded winter landscapes and is noted for illustrating several important books. This portrait was commissioned by WH Drummond for the cover of 'The Habitant" in 1897. The image is embossed in gold on the cover and illustrated as a plate on the inside title page.
