XXL Musk Ox
Nuveeya Ipeelee (Inuit, Frobisher Bay)
Wind Swept Muskox c 1970s

Nuveeya Ipeelee grew up watching his father, Ennutsiak, carve miniature tableaus narrating Inuit life on the land. His carving subjects varied with both figural and animal studies in bone and stone, but Nuveeya is best known for branding his own style of musk ox with wind swept fur, inlaid eyes and realistic antler horns. The present example is Nuveeya at his best: monumental in scale and brimming with vitality.
